Final Fantasy Versus XIII Gameplay Reveal

Man, why do the characters look so emo? Anyway, gameplaywise it seems to be real time like in Final Fantasx XII. Still a PS3 exclusive title. I am asking myself how it is connected to Final Fantasy XIII.
