Shift Through The Desert

Here's a closer look at the Willow Springs race track in NFS Shift. With Shift the series once again takes another route. Let's remember the Need for Speed titles of this generation alone:

- NFS Most Wanted (2005) was a game in which you had a storyline, an open world city and cops to escape from. In my opinion it's the best game in the series.
- NFS Carbon (2006) had the same concept, only at night. But something went terribly wrong. Somehow it lost the magic. I didn't like it.
- NFS Pro Street (2007) tried to be a more serious racer. Away with the open world concept and right into track racing. I didn't play more than the demo. In 2007 my yearly racer was Dirt.
- NFS Undercover (2008) was once again more oriented on the Most Wanted style. I've heard different opinions but for myself I got GRID last year.

When you're able to count you can see that with NFS Shift already the 5th title in the series hits this generations of consoles. Now EA switches back to serious racing after NFS games didn't sell as good as they used to. I have the feeling that none the less most racing game fans are waiting for Forza 3 or Dirt 2 and those PS3 owners who are unbreakable still hold their breath for the delay fest Gran Turismo 5.
By the way, next year's Need for Speed will be developed by Criterion Games who are super famous for their Burnout games. That will be interesting.
